1 hr. 40 min. Svend is a twitchy, petulant geek who's been picked on since he was a child. Bjarne is an anti-social pothead determined to stay as far away from the rest of humanity as possible. They're best friends, of course. Unable to put up with their arrogant boss any longer, the two go into business for themselves and set up their own butcher shop. Business is slow until Svend accidentally locks an electrician in the freezer overnight. He tries to cover up the death by grinding up the corpse, but, finding himself short of meat, is unexpectedly forced to sell the only "stock" he has in the shop. Almost immediately, the two entrepreneurs become the toast of the town. Riding high for the first time in his life, Svend is determined to keep things going--despite Bjarne's resistance--and soon people start disappearing.

Requiem for a dream

Amerikaanse (USA) speelfilm uit 2000 van Darren Aronofsky. Met: Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Marlon Wayans e.a. De joodse weduwe en onorthodoxe moeder Sara Goldfarb is vastbesloten te worden uitgenodigd voor een van haar favoriete televisieshows. Daarom is ze als een bezetene aan het lijnen, zodat ze haar rode jurk aan zal kunnen als de grote avond daar is. Haar zoon Harry is ten prooi gevallen aan drugs. Met zijn vriendin Marion en zijn vriend Tyrone proberen ze het leven van alledag te ontvluchten en roepen kinderachtige visioenen op van een paradijs op aarde. Op zoek naar een beter leven wordt het viertal meegenomen in een diabolische neerwaartse spiraal... Drugs, chocola, televisie, masturbatie, koffie en sigaretten zijn de belangrijkste ingrediënten van dit slimme grote-stadsverhaal over gewone mensen die, op zoek naar snelle behoeftebevrediging, verstrikt raken in dodelijke verslavingen. Volksterras Heinekenplein

Op zaterdag 15 mei om 14.00 uur organiseert het Comité tegen Vertrutting en Apathie haar eerste Volksterras op het Heinekenplein. Hiermee wil het Comité de steeds verdere regelgeving en controle in het openbare leven aankaarten. Omdat een kleine groep voor overlast en criminaliteit zorgt, worden er maatregelen genomen die de bewegingsvrijheid van de hele bevolking beperken. Onder het mom van ordehandhaving en criminaliteitsbestrijding worden er steeds meer repressieve maatregelen genomen, die het openbare leven van iedereen inperken.

Als voorbeeld voor deze repressie kan het algeheel alcoholverbod worden gezien, dat via de Amsterdamse Algemene Plaatselijke Verordening (APV) in de stad afgekondigd is. Door dit alcoholverbod is het voor mensen met weinig geld vrijwel onmogelijk om een biertje te drinken in het zonnetje. Dit terwijl er door de commerciële terrassen steeds meer van de vrije ruimte wordt ingenomen. Op veel plaatsen waar het een ontmoetingsplek bij uitstek is (Sarphatipark, Gerard Douplein en Heinekenplein), wordt er door de politie opgetreden tegen mensen die zelf meegebrachte alcohol nuttigen. Dit terwijl er op een terras even verderop voor veel geld wel alcohol gedronken mag worden.

Zo zijn er de afgelopen jaren meer en meer repressieve maatregelen genomen. De politie heeft de bevoegdheid gekregen om preventief te fouilleren, er hangen op steeds meer plaatsen in de stad camera´s, er zijn samenscholingsverboden in de stad en er is een hangverbod. Dit alles geeft het idee dat de straat er alleen maar is voor het verplaatsen van punt A naar punt B.

De straat is naar ons idee een ideale plek om mensen te ontmoeten, even bij te praten met de buren, spelletjes te spelen of in het zonnetje te zitten. Door mensen te beperken in wat ze mogen in en op “hun” straat, beperk je ook het idee dat het “hun” straat is.

Wij willen met deze actie laten zien dat rondhangen en een biertje drinken vooral gezellig kan zijn. Gezellig een biertje drinken hoeft daarbij niet te leiden tot criminaliteit en overlast. Sterker nog, wij vinden dat het een verantwoordelijkheid voor een ieder is om zelf toe te zien dat je geen hinderlijk verdrag vertoont of om mensen aan te spreken op hinderlijk gedrag. Het repressieve beleid wat nu gevoerd wordt, belemmert mensen in het zelf inrichten van de vrije ruimte en neemt hen die zelfs af.

Vrije ruimte is de ruimte die ingevuld moet worden in de vrijheid van het samenleven!

AMSTERDAM - Het financieel adviesbureau Spaar Select heeft risicovolle financiële producten verkocht aan zwakbegaafden. Dat blijkt uit documenten en interne correspondentie van Spaar Select, die een klokkenluider heeft bezorgd bij de Volkskrant. Toezichthouder AFM onderzoekt het bedrijf sinds eind 2002.

De pas aangetreden directeur Robert van den Broek bevestigt de verkoop van financiële producten aan zwakbegaafden. Volgens hem heeft één franchisenemer producten verkocht aan personen die niet in staat waren zelfstandig een beslissing te nemen. Deze verkoper zou ook verzuimd hebben informatie te geven aan deze klanten.

De samenwerking met deze persoon is beëindigd, zegt Spaar Select. Volgens de directeur is met de betreffende zwakbegaafden een regeling overeengekomen. 'Het is zeer te betreuren dat dit soort dingen gebeurd is.'

Spaar Select groeide tijdens de beurshausse in korte tijd uit tot een van de grootste financiële advieskantoren van Nederland.

Uit de interne documenten blijkt dat de Spaar Select-verkoper in kwestie vooral omzet wilde behalen. Hij verkocht daarom riskante beleggingen aan 'geestelijk niet-volwaardige klanten'.

Van den Broek zegt dat er momenteel intensieve en goede contacten zijn met de Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM). Hij denkt dat het bedrijf aan alle richtlijnen voldoet als een nieuwe wet voor financiële dienstverleners in 2005 van kracht wordt.

Spaar Select heeft ook vrouwen gediscrimineerd, blijkt uit het Handboek voor de Vestigingsmanager van het bedrijf. Daarin staat dat het aannemen van vrouwelijke managers 'een fout' is, die niet meer mag voorkomen.

En: 'het is voor veel vrouwen niet mogelijk binnen de mannencultuur van Spaar Select te overleven.'

Van den Broek zegt dat het Handboek in de praktijk niet altijd werd gevolgd. 'Het is voor vrouwen niet onmogelijk op te klimmen in de organisatie.'

Chrissy Gephardt, the openly gay daughter of former presidential candidate and U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt, D-Mo., has signed on as the new director of the National Stonewall Democrats Grassroots Campaign Corps.

Gephardt, who worked in a similar capacity for her father's 2004 presidential campaign as the LGBT outreach director, recently joined the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, which encourages openly gay people to run for office -- something she admitted as a possibility for her in Sunday's Washington Post. "Maybe one day I'll have political aspirations myself," Gephardt confessed.

David Knight, son of the California state senator who put a ban on same-sex marriage in the books, stood against his father's law and stood up for marriage equality by marrying his partner of 10 years on Tuesday in San Francisco.

Knight's father is state Sen. William "Pete" Knight, R-Palmdale. In 2000, Knight authored Proposition 22, the law which declares, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) launched a million-dollar ad campaign Wednesday in an effort to stop the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), which would ban same-sex marriage.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a television commercial, which will begin airing on Thursday in the Washington, D.C. area.

The 30-second spot takes viewers back four years ago to the vice-presidential debate in Danville, Kentucky when Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) told CNN's Bernard Shaw, "People should be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to enter into."

The vice president adds "I don't think there should necessarily be a federal policy in this area."

Hardere aanpak seks met dieren

De Tweede Kamer wil dat seks met dieren harder aangepakt kan worden. Nu is in de wet alleen opgenomen dat het strafbaar is wanneer zonder redelijk doel de gezondheid of het welzijn van een dier wordt aangetast. Nu het Openbaar Ministerie een verdachte van een paardenverkrachting niet kan aanpakken, willen CDA en PvdA de wet aanscherpen. Volgens hen moet expliciet worden vermeld dat seks met dieren verboden is als het ten koste gaat van de gezondheid van het dier.

LPF, SP en GroenLinks willen dat het kabinet tot een algeheel verbod besluit. Volgens LPF-Tweede-Kamerlid Eerdmans is er bij seks met een dier sprake van 'pure mishandeling'. 'Seks met een dier is een verregaande aantasting van de fysieke integriteit (????) van het dier en kan nooit met instemming van het dier geschieden.'

De verdachte van de paardenverkrachting in Utrecht gaat vrijuit omdat er geen letsel bij het dier was. Bovendien is de bewijslast moeilijk rond te krijgen.

CDA-Tweede-Kamerlid Ormel, zelf ook dierenarts, wil dat ook het verspreiden van foto's of video's van seks met dieren verboden wordt.

Provider Easynet kwam het MyDoom-virus dinsdag 83.389 keer tegen. Het eerste exemplaar kwam even na zes uur 's ochtends binnen. "Gemiddeld komen er nu 118 exemplaren per minuut binnen", aldus Desiree Dijkhuis van de internetaanbieder. Het aantal virussen dat Easynet binnenkrijgt is online te volgen.

Politieke pit bull over omstreden Patriot Act

De Amerikaanse officier van Justitie Viet Dinh wordt wel een "politieke pit bull" genoemd. De jurist die ook hoogleraar Rechten is aan de Georgetown University in Washington DC heeft de omstreden Patriot Act ontworpen. Deze wet, die is geschreven en aangenomen als onderdeel van de Amerikaanse strijd tegen het terrorisme, biedt de overheid zeer veel vrijheid om informatie over burgers te vergaren en te bewaren. In een interview in Wired legt Dinh uit waarom de Patriot Act een goede wet is. Dinh is een echte demagoog. Hij zegt in het interview dat het feit dat er niet meer slachtoffers op Amerikaanse bodem zijn gevallen na de aanslagen van 11 september 2001 te danken is aan de Patriot Wet. Dat de wet pas in 2003 in werking is getreden vergeet hij er voor het gemak bij te vermelden.

James Dale, another expelled Eagle Scout, took the BSA to court in 1999 and won in the State of New Jersey. The U.S. Supreme Court then overturned the decision by a five to four vote, stating that the BSA is a private organization that can maintain whatever membership requirements it desires.

As the sun rises over West Africa's new moviemaking capital, the Surulere district of Lagos, the cast and crew of "Blackmailed" form a four-car convoy to leave for their first day of shooting.

Since the late 1990's, Nigerian movies have found a place next to offerings from Hollywood and Bollywood, Bombay's equivalent, in the cities, towns and villages across English-speaking Africa. Though made on the cheap, with budgets of about only $15,000, the Nigerian movies have become huge hits, with stories, themes and faces familiar to other Africans. It is now, according to conservative estimates, a $45 million a year industry.

According to estimates provided by producers and financial backers, the Nigerian movie industry now produces more than 400 movies a year. At that rate, the producers bring in an estimated $45 million a year; but other people, at movie centers, and bootleggers, also capitalize from the movies.

The Stella Liebeck Awards

It's once again time to review the winners of the annual Stella awards.
The Stella's are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled coffee on herself and successfully sued McDonalds. That case inspired the Stella Awards for the most frivolous successful lawsuits in the United States.

Unfortunately the most recent lawsuit implicating McDonalds, the teens who allege that eating at McDonalds has made them fat, was filed after the 2002 award voting was closed.
This suit will top the 2003 awards list without question.

Kathleen Robertson of Austin Texas was awarded $780,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering the misbehaving toddler was Ms. Robertson's Son.

19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently did not notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal the hubcaps.

Terrence Dickson of Bristol Pennsylvania was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage door. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He could not reenter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation and Mr.Dickson found himself locked in the garage for 8 days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish.
The Jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

4th Place
Jerry Williams of Little Rock Arkansas was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's Beagle dog. The Beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been a little provoked at the time as Mr. Williams, who had climbed over the fence into the yard, was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

3rd place
A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster Pennsylvania $113,500 after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx (tailbone). The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

2nd Place
Kara Walton of Claymont, Delaware sued the owner of a nightclub in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out two of her front teeth. This occurred whilst Ms. Walton was trying to crawl in through the window of the Ladies Room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses.

This year's runaway winner was Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Grazinski purchased a new Winnebago motorhome. On his trip home from an OU football game, having driven onto the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the owner's manual that he could not actually do this.

The jury awarded him $1,750,000 plus a new Winnebago Motor Home. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit just in case there were any other complete morons buying their recreation vehicles.
