Fascism starts with the realization that modern society is plagued by decadence. In an attempt to heal the nation, the idea of re-birth, or palingenesis, is born.
For the nation to be reborn, one must create social order. What follows is the application of military thinking and structure to civil society, a total mobilization, alignment, and polarization. A strong culture is promoted to allow the population to police itself in an effective manner. This culture will ostracize those who believe they can socialize the costs of their bad decisions because they have "rights". A strong leader is chosen to lead the nation.
This leader understands that once the population has peace, security, stability, and some material comfort, it then becomes very hungry for spiritual comfort. Fascism provides spiritual comfort by promoting self-denial and self-sacrifice for the benefit of the tribe. In other words, an individual's desire for immortality is transferred to the tribe. Humans die, but the tribe lives forever. This leads to conservationism applied to humans (rather than trees), which implies at least some tribalism and xenophobia. Since the Christian God and the afterlife are no longer quite believable, immortality is attained via the preservation of one's culture, language, and genes. This implies that fascism should occur in mono-tribal societies with some degree of genetic homogeneity.
Fascism understands that an unfortunate trait of human nature is that conflict brings the members of a tribe together. Fascism promotes eternal war in order to maximize social cohesion. The price to pay is that young adult males have to be bled to death on the battlefield year after year.
